Beyond White Walls
Alternative Venues for Showing and Selling Your Art
3:00 Eastern ~70 minutes
While the gallery system works great for some artists, they aren’t the answer for everyone. Here are a few reasons why:
- It’s impossible for a relatively small number of galleries to support the number of artists who want to show and sell their work.
- Many artists don’t like the constraints that gallery relationships put on them.
- Galleries are having a rough time these days.
We default to the white-wall model—or get stuck in the juried-show comfort trap— because it’s familiar. Because it provides validation.
But when you want to sell your work, you must think outside of the box. It’s more important than ever to get your art in front of people.
Your options are limited only by your imagination. And sometimes your ego.
This workshop walks you through the landscape: what’s possible, how to evaluate whether a venue is worth your time, and how to open doors using the attraction mindset.
We’ll cover how to…
- Discover a full spectrum of alternative venues, with real examples from artists
- Clarify the best venues for you at this point and in the future
- Learn what to research before you ever reach out to a venue
- Understand the five principles of approaching venues with the attraction mindest
- Recognize what a strong first inquiry looks like—and what one that closes doors looks like

About Me
I’ve helped thousands of artists build sustainable, intentional businesses over more than two decades.
I’m the host of The Art Biz podcast, author of I’d Rather Be in the Studio, and founder of Art Biz Success. Before launching my consulting practice in 2002, I spent a decade as a curator and educator in art museums, an experience that still shapes how I see artists and their work.
I am blessed to work privately with a select number of artists each year.
