Create a Catalogue of Your Art
A workshop for deciding what goes in your printed catalogue and how you’ll use it
Choose your focus, define your purpose, and map your contents, so you leave with a plan for a printed catalogue of your art.
Thursday, November 12 @ 1pm Eastern Time
~75 minutes

An exhibition comes down. A website gets updated. An email is deleted.
A catalogue preserves a moment in time. It’s a document of record.
Museums, galleries, and auction houses have a strong tradition of publishing catalogues.
The highest levels of the art world are used to seeing art this way. A catalogue is understood the moment someone picks it up.
Your art deserves the same treatment.
What you’ll leave with
By the end of the workshop, you will have:
- A clear focus for your catalogue: the body of work, show, or span of years it documents
- A purpose for your catalogue and the people it’s for
- A contents list for your own catalogue, from the cover to the captions to the closing page
- A list of who gets your first copies
You won’t make the catalogue in the session. You’ll leave knowing exactly what to make.
In the workshop …
We’ll spend 75 minutes together in the live session working through:
- Why a catalogue: what it can do for you that a website can't
- Your purpose and audience: who your catalogue is for (including yourself)
- Your catalogue's focus: curating the body of work, exhibition, or span of years it covers
- What goes in: the parts of a catalogue, from the cover to the captions to the closing page
- Why print and what it costs: print-on-demand prices, how many copies to order, and price considerations if you decide to sell your catalogues
- How you'll use it who gets your first copies and what happens next

About Alyson Stanfield
Alyson has contributed to museum catalogues and worked with numerous clients to publish their own. She is teaching this because she believes catalogues elevate your professional standing and deserve a special place in your marketing.
Alyson has helped thousands of artists build sustainable, intentional businesses over more than two decades.
She is the host of The Art Biz podcast, author of I’d Rather Be in the Studio, and works closely with a small number of artists each year through private consulting and her coaching groups, The Next Opening and The Third Path.
Thursday, November 12 at 1pm Eastern Time (New York). Approximately 75 minutes.
It’s best if you show up live for this live session in order to get the most out of it.. If you can’t make it, the replay will be in our Learning Center, and you’ll have forever access to the workbook, templates, and companion guide because you can download them.
Your catalogue does need a focus—either a cohesive body of work, an exhibition, or your life’s work. Short of any of these at the moment, you can select your top 12-15 pieces for the exercises.
I would love to wave a magic wand and get you a catalogue in 75 minutes, but that’s beyond my powers. Instead, you’ll have a plan for when you’re ready.
This is a standalone workshop with a specific focus on catalogues, not a coaching program. If you want ongoing accountability and a group working alongside you, that’s what The Next Opening is for.
I am happy to answer specific questions at the end of the workshop, but private consulting isn’t provided. I’m happy to talk with you about options for that when you need guidance.
Absolutely. If you find this isn’t what you expected (please carefully read everything here), you can request a refund within 7 days of the live program or your purchase, whichever is later.
