I’m not sure what will happen in the future, but I am committed to deliver at least one content post a month in audio. Let’s get to it.

Great first podcast. I wish I’d heard this about three years ago. It is so easy to be anxious and in a hurry. Over the last three years, I’ve learned to put one foot in front of the other and to slow down and stay focused. Alyson, you taught me a lot of this!
Still so far to go and still must have a reality check from time to time.

I agree, Barbara! If we don’t know where we’re going, we don’t know how to get there, and all the ‘tasks’ are meaningless.
Thank you for your insights. One thing that resonated with me was embracing the seemingly paradoxical sides of the success coin. Having just completed my first business course after being a sole proprietor/freelancer for four years- I too have come to realize the importance and value of the word “professional” in calling myself a professional artist. I have a different, more appreciative view of the word “system” now too. Thanks again!

You asked how your audience members felt about systems?
I LOVE systems. Systems just had me successfully enact and enjoy a residency program (held at home, where there are so many distractions!) during July. I have concrete, documented efforts for this month from my creative practice (studio time) AND digital work (aka marketing). All of this in spite of having to go to my day job for 3 of 4 weeks of this month.
Alas, my better half arrives home on the 29th of this month as he was gone the entire month, lol. Yet, I DO have systems in place to help me keep my creative practice and digital work in addition to trying to keep a life (outside of that day job).
Systems mean RELIEF: the thinking is done. Because the thinking is done, then all I have to do is follow the system because that system works for me. When I try to work outside of an existing system…I’m grabbing that system because I don’t want to think, I just want to DO. Systems mean making my digital work at least feel faster.

That saves you SO much time in deciding what to do and how to do it. So you can spend your precious decision time on your art making!

It was helpful to hear you both bouncing off from one another. I really liked the combination of two speakers. I have had a creative life of on and off periods, ebbs and flows, due to living with chronic illness, but I really like what was said about legacy and doing that which one doesn’t like to do. I took away from it that I can just keep plugging away. Keep going back to my vision, my plan of action, even after bouts of difficulty, which is really what I have done with my circuitous life path. It helped me to accept myself.

I really want to thank you both for this podcast. I learnt so much and it helps to know it is about scheduling time to do the things i find hard, feeling the accomplishment of that and then doing the next hard thing and experiencing the growth that comes from that. Also i loved when you talked about knowing yourself well enough to know when you are avoiding a task and when you are recharging your batteries by doing something for yourself, and that sometimes when you appear to be doing other things you are working through ideas and directions for yourself. At least those are interpretations I came away with. I loved the fact that you had an overall structure but that there was room for spontaneous insights and wisdom. Loved the podcast and i am really keen to subscribe and learn more. Will be listening to this podcast many times I’m sure. Thank you for your generosity in sharing this.

Loved the podcast, just what I needed to hear this week. I am slowly putting systems in place and realizing no matter how hot my studio is without AC, I would rather work there then at home. My studio really is my happy place and home is where my computer lives.

I loved the podcast. Since I aldo like all TED talks, I found I would watch them and didn’t get work done. I really like better the podcast where I can create and listen to something positive instead. I am so used to hearing your voice now that it comforts me when I hear your great laugh and good advice. You continue to inspire me to do better.

I really enjoyed this podcast. I liked the topic of systems. I know systems are great. I have systems for keeping my house up so that it seems to keep itself clean with minimum effort on my part (thanks to FlyLady). I don’t yet have any systems for my art making or art promoting. I look forward to learning art systems.
