Blog Far in Advance to Promote Your Art Exhibit

One of my coaching clients, Margret E. Short, is blogging. And it’s not just any blog. It’sShort_1 “Outside the Paint Box: Exploring Art, Painting, Pigments, Rembrandt, and the Golden Age of Dutch Art.”

Margret is embarking on the coolest project. Next week, she’s traveling to study the paintings in the exhibit “Rembrandt and the Golden Age of Dutch Painting” at The Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio. When she returns home to Oregon, she’ll begin a series of paintings based on the color in the paintings she observes.

But it gets even neater . . .

The same exhibit is stopping in Portland, OR, next spring, where Margret’s new body of work will debut at the same time. Coincidence? I think not!

When we talked about what she could do to promote this project, it took me about two seconds to talk her into a blog. Because it’s a multi-month project and includes research, trips, and studio time, journaling online is a natural way to promote it! Margret will document her trip to Dayton, her demonstration there (did I mention the museum has asked her to do a program for them?), her paintings, and the arrival of the exhibit in Portland. Think of all the possibilities for building suspense and interest. It makes much more sense than hanging your art, sending out postcards, and hoping people come to your opening!

Why wait until your exhibit opens? Do like Margret is doing and build up interest months before your opening.
