A Few Lessons I Learned from Moving

I’m sure the gods have a lot more to teach me throughout this process, but, for now, here’s what I’ve learned:

  1. Get rid of all the crap you can live without. Do it now. Do not wait until you move. I’m going to try to do this at least twice a year and I don’t consider myself a packrat. There’s something to be said for living the simple life. All that junk just gets in the way of other things I should be doing.
  2. If you don’t check email for two days, the world doesn’t stop turning. It’s amazing!
  3. If you’re going to give up alcohol for a period of time, do it before or after the move. It would have been so nice to have a martini at the end of every moving day. Instead, I watched enviously as those around me enjoyed their glasses and pretended like my sparkling water was champagne.
