Just say “Alyson said so”

Nelson
I got a lot of responses to Monday’s newsletter and podcast about Saying No with Grace. One in particular, from Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson, reminded me of a trick I often use with clients. If you have a hard time standing up to someone or saying No to them, just say, "Alyson said I couldn’t do that." Or "Alyson said I needed to do this instead." I’ll take the heat for you.

(This works great with family members!)

Cheers!

  1. This is a riot! I used to blame my mom when I was in high school, and I have subsequently encouraged my daughter to blame me. You mean I can now turn around and blame you? You are just too cool, thank you!
