To Salida and Back

It’s over. The third and final Art Marketing Action workshop this fall is in the history books. Friday I drove down Hwy 285 to the lovely mountain town of Salida. And this place is teeming with artists! I knew that before because I had the pleasure of speaking at the Colorado Metalsmiths meeting there a couple of years ago. But it was nice to be back.

Karine Swenson bravely hosted the workshop in her Cool Mountain Art gallery and sold out. [Photo of me with Karine in front of her work.] Layne Brady and JaNae Sullivan even drove from Salt Lake City. I was honored.

One cool thing that happened was when I was in the Brodeur Gallery on Friday. I bought a few cards and the young woman told me that she hoped I learned a lot at my workshop. I told her I was the teacher. She said, “Well, you never know. You may learn something from the students.” I said, “I stand corrected. You are absolutely right.” I always learn something at my workshops, which is why I love doing them so much.

Today I drove home the long way. I went to Manitou Springs and the fabulous home of debi Story Maddox and Michael Maddox. Last July, I blogged about an article in the Denver Post that featured their home and her artwork. Michael left a comment on my blog and we struck up an online friendship. They were kind enough to extend an invitation for me to drop by. I enjoyed tea with them and seeing all of debi’s artwork that decorated the house as well as the giant canvases in her studio next door.

See? This blogging is a cool thing. You never know what friendships you’ll strick up.
