(This is post #702. I know, #700 would have been a lot more auspicious, but I must have been asleep at the wheel!)
The Art Marketing Action newsletter this week is about noticing things and tells the story of how Howard L. Cowdrick changed his postcards after watching how they were used (or not used, as is the case).
Serendipitously, a few minutes ago I plucked my copy of Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life (EOAOL) by Amy Krouse Rosenthal off of the book shelf. It’s one of my favorite books I’ve read this past year. I took it out because I’m trying to figure out exactly how my book, I’d Rather Be in the Studio!, will look and feel. And I love the look and feel of Rosenthal’s book. (Bear with me, this is going somewhere.) In preparing my book, I’ve also become a reader of the copyright page. As I opened up EOAOL, I noticed this sentiment on the copyright page:
Not responsible for the lovely ladybug
or purple iris
or flirtatious glance
that was yours to enjoy
but which you did not notice.

I saw this book called ‘Food for Love’ by Max de Roche at a coffee bean shop …I begged my husband to buy it for me, but the shopkeeper said ‘ oh no, that is the only thing on the table NOT for sale ‘…so I had to have it…long story short, found one new copy in England , had it shipped, & now I too can share in these age old recipes for romance …What is different about this book ? it is a small, hardcover, with beautiful art work & gorgeous recipes that are quite old & very exotic…most especially it has a ribbon on the side of the front cover & one on the back, so it arrives tied closed with a bow…the way that it is closed makes it like a secret…
