Yesterday I encouraged you to track your business growth. Presumably, you’ve been doing some of this already.
Deep Thought Thursday
What has surprised you in your tracking?
What has delighted you?
What has scared you?
What has you totally perplexed?

Since reading all of your great tips here I’ve become quite inspired to put a consistent effort into building my collector base. I’ve realized the only real way to do that is to keep track of who is responding to what in terms of my marketing efforts:)
That’s good to hear, Giselle. I think you will notice a big difference in how you feel about your business.

Yesterday I encouraged you to track your business growth. Presumably, you’ve been doing some of this already. “Not consistently.”
Deep Thought Thursday
What has surprised you in your tracking? ” My inconsistency in doing so.”
What has delighted you? “not too much… it’s pretty sad really.”
What has scared you? “my inability to connect with people on a regular basis.”
What has you totally perplexed? “a lot of of new technology and social media and how people can talk so much about small matters.”
Philippe: I think it’s important to recognize your limitations. You can’t completely ignore things that must be done, but you can give other items priority attention (the stuff you’re really good at and enjoy).
-surprised at seeing the annual sales totals being staying consistent despite the last several difficult years
-delighted to be among the lucky ones, selling art. Every unanticipated gallery check in the mail (“Magic Money”) is a delight!
-scary that since 2008, some of my galleries are barely selling art at all compared to before.
-perplexed that after tracking monthly sales for many years, similar efforts yield wildly inconsistent results in terms of sales–unpredictable compared to pre-2008
Rani: Has the way you sell your art changed since 2008? All galleries?
No Alyson, other than a few new galleries. And yes, I only sell through galleries.
I was happy to see your post the other day reminding me to update my past few months sales. Once I did this & realized I already made more by October than I had last year, I was THRILLED! My goal was much more but I’m glad I sold original paintings and accessories (painted bags & hand-cut jewelry). I’m hoping for a big Fall/Winter season before Christmas this year to end with a bang!
