Artist Residencies in Colorado

UPDATE 2016: Colorado Art Ranch has closed down.

Grand Pound, Executive Director for Colorado Art Ranch, asks that I share this information with you.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude to Speak at Colorado Art Ranch Artposium in Salida, Colorado

Colorado Art Ranch, a nonprofit residency program for artists and writers, is thrilled to announce that Christo and Jeanne-Claude will be speaking at the Colorado Art Ranch Artposium in Salida, Colorado on May 26, 2007. Christo and Jeanne-Claude will derive no income from this event. Their presentation is a gift to the Colorado Art Ranch.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude have proposed “Over The River,” a work of art to be exhibited for 14 days over sections of the Arkansas River between Canon City and Salida during summer 2010, the earliest possible date. Grant Pound, executive director of Colorado Art Ranch, said, “Christo and Jeanne-Claude are among the greatest living artists of our time. In the process of bringing their ideas to life, Christo and Jeanne-Claude encounter enough red tape to wrap the White House.”

The Colorado Art Ranch Artposium is entitled “A River Runs Through Us.” The theme will explore how rivers inspire the arts and shape our history, environment, and culture. The goals of the Artposium are to (1) raise money for Colorado Art Ranch’s residency program for artists and writers; (2) promote heritage tourism throughout rural Colorado and (3) contribute to Colorado’s rural economic development through the arts. The public is encouraged to attend. Cost for the two-day Artposium is $199 until February 1, 2007, and $250 after that. Registration is online at

The Colorado Art Ranch residency will run from May 24 to June 21, 2007. Colorado Art Ranch provides artists and writers with four weeks of living and studio space to work uninterrupted. Applications are being accepted from artists and writers worldwide for the Salida program. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2007. Artists and writers can apply online.

About Colorado Art Ranch
Colorado Art Ranch is a nonprofit nomadic program that travels to two Colorado towns each year, adopting themes that reflect the area's heritage, natural resources, topography and people. The program is composed of two parts: a two-day Artposium (public art symposium) and a one-month residency. The Artposium brings together thought leaders to give presentations and workshops on how the arts intersect with life. The residency provides artists and writers with four weeks of living and studio space to work uninterrupted. Colorado Art Ranch encourages emerging, as well as established, artists and writers to apply.  Residencies are located in donated or rented space in selected towns of rural Colorado. Two beliefs guide the management of Colorado Art Ranch: (1) art can change lives and improve the world and (2) an appreciation and respect for the natural world is critical for a sustainable society.
