Making up for that lost hour

Tonight most of us in the US are moving our clocks forward in preparation for spring and Daylight Saving Time. Good for those of us who like an extra hour of light at the end of the day. Bad for our ambitions. How can we afford to lose an hour?!

Here’s a list of activities you could easily forgo to get your interior clock back to normal.

  • Watching TV (C’mon! Just an hour!)
  • Cooking a meal (get takeout!)
  • Vacuuming (can’t it wait?)
  • Cleaning anything (Again, can’t it wait?)
  • Sleep (Who needs it, anyway?)
  • Surfing the Web, Facebook, Twitter
  • Whining, complaining


Things you shouldn’t give up just because you’re losing an hour on the clock:

  • Studio time
  • Marketing time
  • Looking at art
  • Reading about art
  • Journaling
  • Networking
  • Family time
  • Self-care time
  • Laughing, smiling, loving

  1. Funny, I’ve always thought of this day of the year as one of the best. I might even like it better than any holiday on the calendar. We wait for it all year! (Or at least all winter) This is the day that marks the season where you can really get things done. I won’t be tired… right after dinner, I’ll jump out of bed in the morning and my projects… get accomplished without force. Love it, Love it, Love it!

    This day should be declared a holiday with parades and gifts for sure! We sacrifice one hour to gain so many, many more! Yeay!

  2. Glad you mentioned TV – it sucks up peeople’s time. I chose to limit myself to perhaps an hour a day, tops. Otherwise time just vanishes, never to be regained.

    Jennifer: Really? You jump out of your bed? It’s so much darker outside in the morning! But I LOVE the longer evenings.

    Cath: Good decision. Once you turn on the tube, it’s hard to turn it off. Ditto for this computer.
